As one of the most important textile fibers (natural fibers being cotton, wool, plant leaf fiber, silk), man-made fiber has grown into the largest of all the fiber sources, accounting for 65% of fiber consumptions in China. Needless to say, technological progress is decisive in what was achieved in the past and in what’s in store in the future for this industry.
As an annual calendar event, China’s International Man-made Fiber Conference sets out, as always as it started over 20 years ago, to provide an international platform at its 13th International Conference for technical exchange and cooperation in an effort to direct Chinese MMF’s future roadmap.
Mr. Zheng Zhiyi, President of China Chemical Fiber Association (CCFA), will roll out a technological tracking back into the past, and technological forecast back into the future, showing his determination in encouraging science and technology to play a contributive major role in beefing up the chemical fiber industry in China.
Zheng clearly reiterates the overwhelming concern for Chinese MMF lies no longer with capacity growth, but with high-tech fiber development, “the era is gone when capacity growth is a major concern. Now , we have entered a new era for developing high-tech fibers”, says Mr. Zheng Zhiyi, giving the world an important signal that China says goodbye to low-end competition to go all out for high-tech fibers. Zheng expresses his will to strive for a significant breakthrough in this new regime to make a due contribution to the textile industry and its relevant industries.
Mr. Zheng’s optimistic confidence comes from the recent market survey organized by CCFA on carbon fiber production on laboratory experiment and pilot operation and its feasibility of industrialization. The results of the survey fortifies CCFA’s confidence in speeding up high-tech fiber development and they believe technical problems will be solved for carbon fiber and aromatic fiber within the timeframe of “11th Five Year Plan period (2006-2010).
The normal ranges of MMF’s products in China are very competitive price-wise and quality-wise, the world growing scares for Chinese export of textile products, MMF products in particular, are pressing China to reshape its economic growth mode. The rapid development in engineering construction, transportation, sports and fit-keeping facilities pose a rising demand for high-tech fiber, therefore, its development is set to meet its domestic market demand.
Referring to the theme of the conference – “Environment Protection, Resources, Innovation, Development”, when our [[China Textile]] reporter asks why the Environment Protection stands out as the first episode in this play, Mr. Zheng explains that this conference is presented with a special setting, which means China is now in a period to implement the central government call for science-oriented development concept. To respond to this call, CCFA has conducted in-depth market survey in various aspects of technical progress, industrial upgrading, recyclable economy, environment protection to see how to realize what is already in the bluebook of Chinese man-made fiber industry in the 11th Five Year Plan period. “The conference theme and forum’s subjects all bring environment and resources into highlight. That’s what we want to be focused on in the days to come,” reaffirmed Zheng.
Also when asked what would be expected out of his key-note presentation, Mr. Zheng says his speech title is “Technology Development Road for the Future of Chemical Fiber Industry in China”. One can easily find that what he is trying to promote this industry to do just fits in with his long-time efforts to make the science and technology the most contributing factors to the future of Chinese MMF industry. China International Man-Made Fiber Conference made its debut in Beijing in 1985, and has been held for previous 12 times for over 20 years running.
